A composer, pianist and conductor, Britten is one of the main modern British musicians of the 20th century. In the mid-1930s, Alberto Cavalcanti invited him to collaborate in the experimental production of sound films for the GPO Film Unit. His collaboration with poet W. H. Auden includes both the films Coal Face (1935) and Night Mail (1936), and the song cycle Our Hunting Fathers, op. 8 (1936).
